Intel is making a big hairy deal with the South Korean film market!

The Intel Corporation has a new business venture in South Korea and it doesn’t have to do with supplying Samsung Electronics with more hardware.  Intel has starting to assist the country in making three-dimensional movies.

Korean Animation technology is a little behind from their western counterparts.  This helps to explain why science fiction movies are not as popular in the big Korean film market.

Intel is testing that market by providing some of their high-end chips and cloud computing technologies to Dexter Studios for their upcoming film Mr. Go,  A new Korean movie that features a three-dimensional gorilla named Ling Ling.

President of Intel Korea, H. S. Lee, said at a news conference in Seoul last week, “For the depiction of a realistic move of a big wave, each and every drop of water is drawn through detailed and  complicated calculations of an equation.  The same goes for the movement of an (animal) fur.”

The film studio’s CG department, Dexter Digital, says that Ling Ling for Mr. Go comes with somewhere between two to 3 million strands of fur.

The planning and marketing director at Dexter, Lee Yoon-suk, had this to say, “Without the right hardware performance, it would have been impossible to make the movie.”

Dexter used supercomputers that ran the Intel’s Xeon E5 processors to make the film.

Microsoft to Release their restructuring plan as early as Thursday!

Restructuring, Tampa, Microsoft

According to AllThingsD, Steve Ballmer, Microsoft Chief Executive, is expected to announce a major and long awaited restructuring at Microsoft as early as Thursday.

It is likely that Ballmer will realign the company around devices and services (software) in both the business and consumer sectors.  After writing the note stating, “this is really a new era for our company.”, Ballmer might have already laid the groundwork for this transition.

These major changes are expected to put the President of Skype, Tony Bates, in charge of relationships with software developers, according to a Bloomberg report last week.  Windows head, Julie Larson-Green, is expected to manage the hardware engineering for all of the devices through out the entire company.  This position was considered to former Microsoft gaming chief, Don Mattrick, before  he left the company last week to take over Zynga.

The Windows OS engineering is said to be given to Windows Phone software head Terry Myerson.  Satya Nadella, the current head of the server side of the business, will control a division centralized in cloud computing and other enterprise products.  According to Bloomberg’s sources, Qi Lu, who currently runs the online group, would now manage an engineering unit in charge of Bing as well as Office and Skype.

Yahoo joins Apple, Facebook, Microsoft and Google by releasing personal information to the Government.

Apple, Yahoo, Facebook, Tampa. Microsoft, Google, Personal Data

Along with the other major corporations recently, Yahoo has declared that they will be releasing all of the requests made buy the U.S. authorities for information about their users.

The announcement to place late Monday night Pacific Time by Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer and and General Counsel Ron Bell via blog post.  This is the first of its kind by Yahoo and was very similar to the statements made by Microsoft, Apple, and Facebook.

I attempts to preserve the trust of their users, Yahoo  said that between December 1, 2012 and May 31, 2013, it received between 12,000 and 13,000 requests for information, which until earlier in June companies were not allowed to release.

Apple said that they had handled 4,000 to 5,000 requests during the same time period.

Yahoo has also added that the “most common of these requests concerned fraud, homicides, kidnapping, and other criminal investigations” rather than classified requests.

However, Yahoo did not say how many user accounts were associated with these requests, like Apple and Facebook did.

Yahoo did say that later this summer they would begin issuing a twice-a-year “global law enforcement transparency report.”

Could Training your current employees save you money instead of hiring someone else who already has the skills you need?

New Hire, Company, Tampa, IT, Training, Skill Shortage

“Skills Shortage” seems to be an extremely active phrase as of late; however, it may be more beneficial for companies to train their IT employees after they are hired, rather than hire them with those skills already intact, according to reports.

One of the analysts who worked on the reports, Cushing Anderson, said a new hire with these skills already could cost the company anywhere from 1.5x to 3x the salary.  This obviously shows that training an  existing employee would save the company quite a bit of money, and you already know that the employee fits in well with the company.

Additionally, the pay rate of a new hire usually falls between 15% to 20% more than what the company expected or even wanted to pay, according to Anderson.  The cost only adds up because, “when the skill becomes plentiful, you don’t reduce their par,” he said.

A new hire’s cost to your company could also include a recruiter finder fee, which usually costs from 25% to 100% of the salary being offered.  It might also be a necessity to pay for travel for candidates for several interviews and pay for relocation expenses.

The better approach, according to Anderson, is to prepare for future IT needs by investing in staff training.

Training can fall anywhere on the spectrum from having the employee shadow someone with the skills the company needs to attending a fast-track boot camp training session.  It may even be cheaper to pay for a master’s degree in IT than to hire a new employee.

“There is always someone willing to move jobs if you’re willing to pay.”  according to Anderson.  What this quote basically means is, The idea of a skills shortage has more to do with what a company is willing to pay.

The IT jobs in highest demand involve big data usage and the ability to pull social networking into enterprise applications.  According to Anderson, other skill areas that are high in demand are, Cloud and cloud management, enterprise architecture, converged networking systems, mobile, video networking, and security.

Microsoft is Showcasing Office 365 Customers that got rid of Google Apps!

Google, Google Apps, Tampa, Training, Microsoft, Office 365

There is a lot of companies that pay for office suites; however, with only two more days until Google‘s I/O show, Microsoft has decided to showcase three that picked Office 365 after trying Google Apps.

Google may have gotten out of the gates early with their apps such as, Gmail, Docs, Sheets, and Slides, but Microsoft’s huge customer base, who are already comfortable with their products, are natural candidates for upgrading to Microsoft’s Office 365 online suite.

Microsoft is showing off how Sensia Halsovard, Sepco III, and Arysta LifeScience decided to use Office 365 after having deployed or piloted Google Apps.

Arysta LifeScience  got rid of Google Apps due to their staff being dissatisfied with Google Apps’ shared calender and offline usability limits, according to Microsoft.

Microsoft and Google constantly compete over services.  Microsoft has also recently said that Caltex Australia, Santa Clara County, and FHI 360 have all selected Office 365.  FHI 360 said they choose Microsoft because Office 365 had the only cloud-computing option that complied with their needs for security and HIPAA health-care regulations.

Microsoft also fired shots at Google Apps features shortcomings even as Google won a 20,000 employee contract with the city of Boston.
