There are changes to Microsoft’s Xbox One before its even released!

PlayStation 4, Sony, Tampa, Xbox One, Microsoft

While Sony’s PlayStation 4  took the lead over Microsoft’s Xbox One in technical specifications and high performance elements when the two consoles were first announced, you can expect to see some changes before November.

At Gamescon, in Cologne, Germany, Product Chief Marc Whitten brought up the Xbox One.  During Gamescon, Whitten announced that Microsoft has made some improvements  to the Xbox One gaming console, including a six percent increase to the graphic processing unit’s speed form 800 Megahertz to 853 Megahertz.

When first announced, the earliest of the two consoles put Sony’s PlayStation 4 far in the lead in a number of aspects.  For instance, The PlayStation 4 will have around triple the memory bandwidth of Microsoft’s Xbox One.  In a nut shell, the PlayStation 4 will be able to communicate with all of its components a lot faster than Microsoft’s Xbox One will, at least where it stands now.  Another current advantage that Sony has is its 8 Gigabytes of 5500-Megahertz GDDR5 RAM, compared to Xbox One’s 8 Gigabytes of DDR3 RAM that is clocking around 2133 Megahertz.  The faster speeds of the PlayStation 4 will help games perform and load faster with less lag.  The PlayStation 4 also has a higher-performing graphics processor.

Even though Microsoft has increased the graphic processor of the Xbox One, it really may not be able to catch to Sony’s PlayStation 4 Specifications.  Microsoft, however, is sending a different kind of message.  Microsoft could continue to make changes to the Xbox One to make it more powerful in the months before the November release of both consoles.

What Microsoft does have a few things that can help it out.  The consoles success does not rely on its power alone.  Another key factor is the line up of games it will offer.  If the Xbox One can have better exclusive games than the PlayStation 4, then they may just have a superior console on its hands.  Even if Microsoft got an earlier release date on the bigger name multi-console games, this would put Xbox One at a greater advantage.  Another thing that Whitten said was that Microsoft has been working on making developing a lot simpler for the Xbox One.  This could pull some developers from Sony’s PlayStation 4.

Microsoft to Release their restructuring plan as early as Thursday!

Restructuring, Tampa, Microsoft

According to AllThingsD, Steve Ballmer, Microsoft Chief Executive, is expected to announce a major and long awaited restructuring at Microsoft as early as Thursday.

It is likely that Ballmer will realign the company around devices and services (software) in both the business and consumer sectors.  After writing the note stating, “this is really a new era for our company.”, Ballmer might have already laid the groundwork for this transition.

These major changes are expected to put the President of Skype, Tony Bates, in charge of relationships with software developers, according to a Bloomberg report last week.  Windows head, Julie Larson-Green, is expected to manage the hardware engineering for all of the devices through out the entire company.  This position was considered to former Microsoft gaming chief, Don Mattrick, before  he left the company last week to take over Zynga.

The Windows OS engineering is said to be given to Windows Phone software head Terry Myerson.  Satya Nadella, the current head of the server side of the business, will control a division centralized in cloud computing and other enterprise products.  According to Bloomberg’s sources, Qi Lu, who currently runs the online group, would now manage an engineering unit in charge of Bing as well as Office and Skype.

Yahoo joins Apple, Facebook, Microsoft and Google by releasing personal information to the Government.

Apple, Yahoo, Facebook, Tampa. Microsoft, Google, Personal Data

Along with the other major corporations recently, Yahoo has declared that they will be releasing all of the requests made buy the U.S. authorities for information about their users.

The announcement to place late Monday night Pacific Time by Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer and and General Counsel Ron Bell via blog post.  This is the first of its kind by Yahoo and was very similar to the statements made by Microsoft, Apple, and Facebook.

I attempts to preserve the trust of their users, Yahoo  said that between December 1, 2012 and May 31, 2013, it received between 12,000 and 13,000 requests for information, which until earlier in June companies were not allowed to release.

Apple said that they had handled 4,000 to 5,000 requests during the same time period.

Yahoo has also added that the “most common of these requests concerned fraud, homicides, kidnapping, and other criminal investigations” rather than classified requests.

However, Yahoo did not say how many user accounts were associated with these requests, like Apple and Facebook did.

Yahoo did say that later this summer they would begin issuing a twice-a-year “global law enforcement transparency report.”

Microsoft’s Xbox One Vs. Sony’s PlayStation 4! A side by side comparison!

PlayStation 4, Sony, Tampa. DualShock 4, Microsoft, Xbox One

Even though we still have 5 months to wait until the release of the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4, the cyber world is buzzing over the next generation of gaming.

Microsoft has been putting together a larger and more impressive bunker of exclusive games, while Sony has been pulling back the restrictions on the PlayStation 4 Games and is also offering a $100 lower price.

With the releases of these next generation gaming consoles, excitement and brutality is almost guaranteed.

Hardware

For the most part, the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4 are very similar when it pertains to hardware, with just a few key differences.

The biggest difference in hardware between these two gaming titans, according to an analysis by Digital Foundry, is the type of RAM they use.  The PlayStation 4 will use 8GB GDDR5 RAM, while the Xbox One will be using 8GB of DDR3 RAM.  The Ram that will be used in the PlayStation 4 is the same type of RAM used by the majority of PC video cards and is optimized for graphics throughput.

Richard Leadbetter, from Digital Foundry, estimates the the PlayStation 4’s GPU could have almost 50% more raw Graphical computational power than than the one in the Xbox One.  This could translate to more visually appealing games on the PlayStation 4.

Here is a chart of each of the systems hardware, please click to enlarge..

Capture

Exclusives

Both Microsoft’s and Sony’s self-published title will obviously be exclusive to their own consoles.  So you shouldn’t expect Halo, Gears of War, or Fable on the PlayStation 4, nor should you expect Uncharted, Killzone, or Ratchet and Clank games on the Xbox One.

At E3 this year, Microsoft displayed many first party titles.  Key games would include Dead Rising 3, Ryse: Son of Rome, Killer Instinct, Quantum Break, Project Spark, Titanfall, and Forza 5.  Microsoft has also promised that all DLC (add-on downloadable content) for Activision’s Call of Duty: Ghosts would debut first on the Xbox One.

The big names from Sony to be exclusive on the PlayStation 4 include Killzone: Shadow Fall, Infamous: Second Son, Knack, The Order, The Dark Sorcerer, and 10 new indie titles.

Reports are saying that when it comes to custom content games, the Xbox One is the way to go.  The games just seem to be more exciting from Microsoft then they do from Sony.

Controllers

The handheld controllers on both Microsoft’s Xbox One and Sony’s PlayStation 4 are descendants form their predecessors.  Both come with a new look and feel; however, the layout on both are basically the same.

The Sony DualShock 4 does feature a clickable touch pad on the front.  This feature will give developers an additional option when designing games, although we have yet to see this feature in action.

The DualShock 4 also includes a “light bar” in the front that enables motion control. With the PlayStation 4’s Eye Camera to track the position and identify where the controller is actually located  and, if necessary, adjust the split screen orientation during multiplayer gaming. The Xbox One will accomplish this task by using the Kinect.  The Dual Shock 4 will also feature a share button for social interaction, a built in speaker, and a headphone jack.

Windows 8.1, Microsoft, Tampa, Update, Windows, Windows 8

Only seven months after its release, Microsoft has released details about its first major update, which is rumored to be named Windows 8.1.  The majority of the changes are based on user feedback and Microsoft’s overall plan for the operating system.

One thing they have worked on is more personalization options in Windows 8.1, with new colors and backgrounds to choose from for the start screen.  User will now be able to use Windows 8 devices as a unique picture frame if they like, due to the fact that the lock screen can show a slide show of pictures.  Users will now also be able take pictures with any built-in cameras without ever having to leave the lock screen with this update.

Google, Google Apps, Tampa, Training, Microsoft, Office 365

There is a lot of companies that pay for office suites; however, with only two more days until Google‘s I/O show, Microsoft has decided to showcase three that picked Office 365 after trying Google Apps.

Google may have gotten out of the gates early with their apps such as, Gmail, Docs, Sheets, and Slides, but Microsoft’s huge customer base, who are already comfortable with their products, are natural candidates for upgrading to Microsoft’s Office 365 online suite.

Microsoft is showing off how Sensia Halsovard, Sepco III, and Arysta LifeScience decided to use Office 365 after having deployed or piloted Google Apps.

Arysta LifeScience  got rid of Google Apps due to their staff being dissatisfied with Google Apps’ shared calender and offline usability limits, according to Microsoft.

Microsoft and Google constantly compete over services.  Microsoft has also recently said that Caltex Australia, Santa Clara County, and FHI 360 have all selected Office 365.  FHI 360 said they choose Microsoft because Office 365 had the only cloud-computing option that complied with their needs for security and HIPAA health-care regulations.

Microsoft also fired shots at Google Apps features shortcomings even as Google won a 20,000 employee contract with the city of Boston.

Microsoft to offer smaller and cheaper tablet!

Tampa, Tablet, Microsoft

Microsoft is planning to release a 7.5 inch tablet in the near future.  This move from the tech giant comes with the hat hitting competition in the tablet market.

Richard Shim, an analyst at NPD DisplaySearch, told CNET Thursday that, “From the supply chain side, we’re seeing the panel specifications, the touch module, the mass production schedule being made.”

The tablet is expected to be released with a 1,400×1,050 resolution 7.5 inch screen, according to Shim.  This tablet will also come with a pixel desity of 233 pixels per inch, which is better that the Nexus 7 and Apple’s iPad Mini.

Shim has also said that, “Mass production is Q1 [first quarter] 2014.  Apparently, pretty significant volume.  Multiple millions.”  He also added that production could start sooner than that at a lower level and pick up the pace to mass production by the first quarter.

A rumor Coming out of Asia on Wednesday claimed that second generation surface tablets will have displays between 7 to 9 inches.  That same report said that Microsoft will probably announce something tat their Build Conference in June.
